Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie kicked off his 2017 Statewide Tour along with Assemblyman Al Stirpe by visiting local entrepreneurs and GENIUS NY teams at The Tech Garden. Heastie’s visit to Central New York is part of his statewide regional tour and plan to explore what each region has to offer. The visit provides a look at a number of growing industries developing in the Central New York area, including new UAS focused companies.
Ascent AeroSystems showcased their Sprite drones currently being manufactured in Central New York. Their uniquely cylindrical shaped drones are designed to be portable, rugged and powerful tools.
Sasi Prabhakaran, CEO and Founder at Akrobotix shares a live viewing of his teams custom built drone equipped with Real-time Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM). The unmanned vehicle is capable of mapping its environment, while simultaneously approximating its own position on that map. Based on this data, the drone can navigate through any space without GPS - indoors or outdoors.
The visit concluded with AutoModality performing a real time building inspection demonstration outside Gryphon Sensors. Aviation Director Jimmy Halliday, prepared the launch of their customized DJI M100 drone. AutoModality utilizes Photogrammetry 3D modeling and sensor packages to teach their drones to fly automatically in GPS denied locations such as bridges and even within warehouses. The team is currently focusing their technology to inspect underneath bridges, improving safety, speed and accuracy.
