Ascent AeroSystems is one of the most exciting new players in the UAS (drone) industry, and we’re hiring.  Our unique designs provide the foundation for the most portable and durable vehicles available anywhere, and we’ve attracted tremendous interest from customers across the professional, commercial, industrial, public safety and military markets.  We're actively looking for someone to join our engineering team in Syracuse, New York as we transition from a successful crowdfunding project to a robust, sustainable business.
Working with the existing cofounders, our experienced team of advisers and world-class customers across industry, government and academia, you'll bring your expertise as a flexible, innovative engineer with a solid grasp of design and a knack for clean-sheet thinking. Flexibility, curiosity and a burning desire to wear many hats are core to your being…you’ll need to be willing to take on any number of tasks that face a small, fast growing company. One hour you’ll be working on a new CAD model, the next you’ll be rolling up your sleeves and helping to assemble vehicles while coordinating the efforts of part-time help you’ll help to hire and train.

If you’re someone who wants to work at the leading edge of aerospace technology where design cycles are short and decisions can be made quickly, this is your kind of environment. Experience with model aviation, basic electrical design, UAV technology (especially autopilot and flight control logic) would be ideal. This position needs to be filled as soon as possible.
Representative responsibilities include:

  • Computer Aided Design
  • Coordinate with outside vendors
  • Estimate costs and prepare budgets
  • Organize workflow to meet specifications and deadlines
  • Supervise and evaluate performance of production personnel (quality inspectors, workers etc.)
  • Work to resolve customer technical support issues
  • Contribute to RFPs, RFIs and other contract-related work as assigned
  • Perform analyses and develop reporting deliverables for internal and external stakeholders

Requirements:
  • BS in mechanical or electrical engineering is required
  • 2-4 years in a design environment
  • Knowledge of performance evaluation and budgeting concepts
  • Proficient in MS Office and ERP software
  • Experience with SolidWorks, NX or other similar design packages
  • Outstanding communication ability and excellent organizational and leaderships skills
  • Attention to detail, strong decision-making skills and a results-driven approach
  • U.S. citizenship is required
